As of 4 October 2026. The following information applies to NarraCam and this website.
On your device
Simple Description and local AI analyse camera images or selected captures on your device. Images and description context are not sent to us or an external AI service for this purpose.
Permissions and processed data
Simple Description uses local signals such as brightness, movement, people and optionally detected text. On-Device AI uses a downloaded model. You can exclude detected image text from descriptions.
Captures may include descriptions, thumbnails, dates, technical capture data and an optional location. Manage camera, microphone, photo and location permissions in system settings. NarraCam uses the microphone and location only with your permission for the relevant feature. Reading aloud uses system speech output and does not require microphone access.
Captures may appear in system search and the widget. Sharing sends selected content to other apps or people; the recipients’ terms apply to their further processing.
Model downloads
On-Device AI needs a one-time model download from Hugging Face. Downloads generate connection data but do not include camera images. Image descriptions then work offline.
Download provider and connection data
Hugging Face and its download infrastructure process technically necessary data such as your IP address, requested model files and connection information. You can manage and delete models in the app.
Storing and deleting
Photos, videos and descriptions stay on your device or, if you choose, are also stored in your private iCloud. You manage and delete them in the app.
iCloud, trash and backups
When iCloud storage is enabled, originals, thumbnails and encrypted metadata are stored in the private CloudKit area of your Apple Account. Local original copies may be removed to optimise storage and downloaded again when needed. Image descriptions still take place locally.
You can edit descriptions, dates and locations. Deleted captures stay in the trash until you permanently remove them or the selected period expires. Backups and previously exported files may continue to exist independently.
Apple provides iCloud and system features such as permissions and speech output. Privacy at Apple.
Website and email
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes technical connection data for that purpose.
You can contact us directly at [email protected]. When you write to us, we use your email address and the information in your message to handle your request. We use Apple iCloud Mail for this.
Hosting, browser preferences and providers
When you visit the website, Cloudflare processes information such as IP address, requested URL, time, browser and device details to deliver and protect the website. Privacy at Cloudflare.
The website reads your browser’s preferred languages. A manually selected language is stored locally in your browser. Choosing “Automatic” removes that preference. The audio demo uses original German recordings or your browser’s speech output in the selected language. The website code contains no advertising trackers or embedded analytics scripts.
Apple processes emails and associated connection data to provide iCloud Mail. Please only send information we need to handle your request. Privacy at Apple.
Apple, Hugging Face and Cloudflare operate internationally. Data may also be processed outside Switzerland, particularly in the United States.
Your rights
Subject to legal requirements, you can request access to, correction, deletion, release or transfer of your data. Write to us at [email protected].
Data protection law and supervisory authorities
Swiss data protection law applies to operations in Switzerland. Under its conditions, you can also request that processing stop. If you suspect a data protection violation, you can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
Where the GDPR applies, additional rights include restriction, objection and a complaint to the competent supervisory authority. You may withdraw consent for future processing.
Processing serves the app features you select, website delivery and security, and responding to enquiries. Where the GDPR applies, requested services rely on Article 6(1)(b); necessary website operations and general enquiries rely on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f), provided your rights do not outweigh them. Legally required consent must be obtained separately. System permissions control technical access and do not replace every data protection requirement.
